Oh hey! So internet
doesn’t work for my laptop like it does for everyone else so I need to use an
Ethernet. However, all of the ethernets are occupied so I decided to try out my
Windows 7 version of Word to type up a blog.
Took me awhile to figure out how to update a blog which is why this is
my first since being in Africa. Blogging
via word might help my spelling and grammar immensely. So we are now about to start our 3rd
week here in Senegal West Africa. It has
been crazy weird learning a new language and meeting a shit ton of new people
and being in a different country and continent and eating a shit ton of rice
and living with a new family and living out of a suitcase and …you get the
idea. All at the same time. I feel like Ill gain new style and perspective. Already had these sweet new pants tailored in
my CBT town Bayakh. They have this awesome pattern and are four sizes too large
but I am in love with them. CBT stands
for cultural basic training? I think. Anyhow I also talked about dreading my
hair today with some people and really am serious about it. I already didn’t wash my hair for about 5
days and didn’t even really mind.
Definitely getting used to feeling and being dirty all the time. No one cares.
It does feel real nice to shower though at the Peace Corps center.
So about my host family:
my mother is seriously strict and has implemented a 7 pm curfew. Ridiculous and I hate it but I can see she
cares. My host sisters are too
cute. They range from the ages of 14 to
25. Oh there are some host brothers in
their too. I am still slightly confused
about my family but I have 50 more days of CBT stay days so I have a feeling
that I will know more ins and outs soon….and then for a long time
afterwards. It feels like time is going
slow but I know it’s gonna pick up.
I’ve been slowly learning that Peace Corps Senegal is really
lucky and has some great structure in terms of regional houses and a training
center and large connections and networks between all of the volunteers. Apparently other countries are not as well
off? Who knows. It is still tough here in Senegal
though. Shits real. The trash piles are quite amazing and a sight
that never ceases to be shocking. Also
the cars and buses and taxis all look like they rolled off a cliff and could be
entered into a demolition derby. They
still run though. Just break down
often. We learned all this handy
information today. I saw two kittens today eating out of a trashcan and I just
wanted them so bad. But they were very
stray and very scared of me L
Found out I missed St. Pattys Day and that was a little
depressing but many birthdays and Easter and other holidays to be celebrated as
we get more in the party mood! You know
after we all freak out a little less. I
am super pumped about March madness and my brackets although I don’t wite know
how I’ll be able to keep up with the wins and rounds since I won’t have
internet after sat for over a week. Oh
well still very triumphantly exciting to just make a bracket with other people
who know what it is here J
Shout out to Delaware woman’s basketball!! Woop woooo I hope
they make it far! Going all the way
would be a proud moment!
Anyways I think I shall go eat some of my snacks from my
parent’s care package since it makes me extremely happy every time I open it
and look at my goodies J
More classes at the training center tomorrow and then off to
my host family site on Saturday for a long bout of time!!! Wish me luuuuuuck!
I made the decision to dred my hair yesterday and today so
it might happen in the coming weeks! I
am pretty excited to make a major change J
Miss you all very much and hopes all of your lives are going
smoothly and sweetly!! Spring is upon us
so I am excited to know it is getting slightly warmer up in the states. Love and peace! Later!
